Vocabulary Hat Project
1. Listen to the story Miss Alaineus: A Vocabulary Disaster by Debra Frasier
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGNpsgBXsyM
2. Choose a new, interesting or unusual word to illustrate.
When you listen to the story, what kinds of words do you think are interesting?
For example, the word might be so unusual that very few people know what it is. Or, it might be a word that sounds beautiful to say. Unique words grab people's attention and make readers and listeners want to learn more.
Check out the links for word ideas.
3. Create a hat to illustrate your word – each student will select a word that will become a costume hat. Put your thinking caps on! How would you show the word ADRIFT? or POROUS? or ZIGZAG? From A to Z, students will consider the entire dictionary as possible word hat choices.
Your child will be asked to wear and share their selected word and a definition at our May 11th Class Meeting on Zoom. Thank you for helping us make vocabulary instruction into a Parade of Words!
4. Wear your Vocabulary hat to our May 11th Class Meeting on Zoom
Show Me: Please send a picture of your child wearing his or her word hat and I can add it to our Photo Gallery. Thank you!
